CAT Exam: Latest Syllabus & Pattern

CAT (Common Admission Test) 2016 exam will be conducted on 04th December, 2016 (Sunday). The exam will be held in two sessions on the same day. After submission of Application, candidates will be permitted to download their Admit Card from 24th October 2016,  till exam day. Results for CAT 2016 exam will be declared by 2nd Week of January, 2017 (Tentative) on the CAT website

CAT Exam Syllabus

CAT 2016 exam syllabus is split into the following sections – 

1. Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension – questions will be based upon language usage or Grammar, RC’s, Vocabulary (Synonyms and Antonyms), Cloze passage, Sentence Correction, fill in the blanks, para jumbles.

2. Quantitative Ability – questions will be based upon number systems, LCM and HCF, trigonometry, Time & Work, averages, percentages, Profit and Loss, Geometry, Co-ordinate Geometry, Quadratic Equations, linear equation, Permutation and combination, Progressions (sequence & series), Complex numbers, probability, Mixtures and Alligations.

3. Data Interpretation Interpretation and analysis of data based on tables, graphs (bar graphs), charts (line, pie charts), Venn Diagrams.

4. Logical Reasoning questions will be based upon Number and Letter Series, Blood Relations, seating arrangement, syllogism, binary logic, cubes, clocks, calendars, logical sequence.

CAT Exam Pattern

CAT 2016 examination will be held in online mode. Candidates cannot switch from one section to another while answering questions in one particular section. Also, some questions in each section may not be of multiple choice type. Instead, direct answers are to be typed on the screen. For each correct answer +3 marks will be allotted and -1 will be deducted for every wrong answer, no marks will be provided to questions that are not answered.
